The Scoop: Hey guys, remember Catherine Hardwicke? Back in the day (that is to say, 2008), she was on top of the world, having set the record for the highest grossing film ever directed by a woman, a little something called “Twilight.” And then, she kinda got dumped by the studio. Well, now she’s back with an edgy, goth-modern take on the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood.  This time around, though, Red ain’t so little; instead, she’s played by Amada Seyfried as a hot young woman whose snowbound medieval village is under attack by a werewolf. If living well truly is the best revenge, we think Hardwicke is about get her payback in spades.

Does 2011's Film Slate Show that Hollywood Has Learned from 2010's Flops & Successes?

While some adaptations did well in 2010 ("Alice in Wonderland" and "Tangled"), for the most part they were both critically and commercially disliked. Even with strong stars, films like "Eat Pray Love" and "For Colored Girls" were pretty much ignored by audiences and disliked by critics. This coming year could have some luck with its many young-adult adaptations ("I Am Number Four," "Beastly," "Red Riding Hood," Monte Carlo") thanks to their popular leads, and "The Help" and "Water For Elephants" have strong enough fan bases to carry them to box office gold.

Is Red Riding Hood at the top of your list this year? What else are you excited to see?
